National Surveyor’s Week - March 21-27, 2010
Do you want to be
involved in the largest single day survey in Wisconsin
history????
This year we will get our public relations started
properly. We will heighten the awareness
of surveying while highlighting the profession during these tough economic
times. We are going to get newspaper
coverage for surveyors in every community in the state, maybe even radio and TV.
How about the Guinness Book of World Records™?
We have applied and will know if we are attempting a world record before
the event.
On Saturday, March 20, set up your gps unit, or units if you
have multiples, on any monument(s) you choose.
Have you wanted a monument in your front yard? A remote location for an upcoming
project? A check on a previous
occupation? One of the new Height
modernization monuments without published coordinates? You can make a sign and invite people to stop
and talk to you.
Collect two sets of data, first from 10AM until 12PM, CDT. Reset the setup and collect again from 1PM
until 3PM. Send the RINEX files to me,
Bruce D. Bowden, brbowden@mhtc.net.
The files will be post-processed and the resulting vectors
adjusted with a least squares application.
This is not enough data to be able to be Blue Booked but the results
will be placed on the WSLS web-site for future reference. It should be an interesting network.
A press release will be provided for you to contact your
local paper with an article explaining surveying. It will be on the WSLS website and local
Chapter sites or ask me for a copy. Use
it as is, revise it to fit your situation or let the paper revise it. Get your picture taken with your equipment in
the great outdoors, let the newspapers know where you will be that day or you can
provide a picture to them.
Even if you’re not in Wisconsin,
I will try to resolve your data with the appropriate points near you.
COME ON!!! LET’S
SURVEY WISCONSIN IN A DAY
