Certified Survey Technician (CST) Committee

Committee Charges:

  • Schedule testing at least twice a year in conjunction with the Annual Institute and the Summer Meeting
  • Promote the participation in this program with both technicians and their employers
  • Promote the program to Wisconsin DOT to be included as part of their contracting and among its personnel
  • Encourage employers to link the CST testing with raises and promotions
  • Sponsor annual awards and recognition for those who have become Certified Survey Technicians during the past year. Prepare a brief for publication that explains the program and the benefits of hiring CST’s for firms
  • Meet with the Education Committee to discuss CST as an evaluation tool for future employment and pro’s/con’s for a certificate needed for employment.

The committee is working hard to find ways to rekindle interest in the program.  We are currently working directly with NSPS to develop a newsletter for the CST’s.  This newsletter would be sent electronically to all the active CST’s.

Rick VanGoethem from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College proctored an online exam for 14 of his students on March 9th.  We are hoping that the other Technical Colleges will take part in the program this year as well.

The committee is researching ways to get the Wisconsin Department of Transportation involved in the program.  One possibility is to require a CST on site for all machine control projects.

As always, we continue to encourage all members to promote the program and employers to adopt the program within their own organizations.
