This certification program provides a comprehensive body of knowledge to the surveyor about his or her relationship with the National Flood Insurance Program. Surveyors are a major link in the entire NFIP system. To adequately perform the duties to fulfill NFIP requirements, a surveyor must expand his or her knowledge on this specialized aspect of the profession. Over an intense three day period of instruction, the surveyor is exposed the many flood issues including the National Flood Insurance Program, Code of Federal Regulations Title 44, Flood Insurance Rate Maps, Letters of Map Change (LOMA, LOMR-F, LOMR), no rise certifications and the Elevation Certificate. Following this training, there is a four hour exam administered to assess the surveyor’s floodplain knowledge. This course is supported by the National Society of Professional Surveyors, Wisconsin Department of Environmental Protection and FEMA – and – has been approved by the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors for 16 hours of CEU’s. WSLS maintains a list of members who have CFS certification on our website and provides updates to the NSPS listing.

The course will run from 8am - 5pm CST each day. Daily lunch is provided in the registration fee.

**Important Information regarding who may register**

It is the policy of the Certified Floodplain Surveyors Board of the National Society of Professional Surveyors that:

The Certified Floodplain Surveyor Certification is only to be given to Professional Surveyors that have successfully completed the National Society of Professional Surveyors Certified Floodplain Surveyor Course and passed the exam given for the course. A Survey Technician, Surveyor in Training or a student pursuing a two year or four year survey degree may take the course and test. If they successfully pass the course and exam, they will be given a Certificate of Completion and when they become a Professional Land Surveyor, they can request that they be given the Certified Floodplain Surveyor Certificate. In order to meet this
requirement, they will need to complete any and all update courses given at two year intervals beginning from the time they successfully completed the course.
Others interested parties (Professional Engineers, Floodplain Managers, etc.) may audit the Certified Floodplain Surveyor Course with no test given. If they successfully attend all components of the course they will be given a Certificate of Attendance for the course.
